Antes de publicar Vila dos Confins e Chapadão do Bugre – obras seminais da literatura brasileira – Mário Palmério já era considerado um mito no interior de Minas Gerais. Contrariando as expectativas em uma região atormentada por diversas crises, o jovem e ambicioso professor assumiu riscos, tornou-se um empresário bem-sucedido e aprendeu a manipular os símbolos mais preciosos de sua sociedade. Palmério desenvolveu uma percepção aguçada sobre a dimensão teatral da vida social e empregou uma série de procedimentos dramatúrgicos para supervalorizar seu papel e conquistar a adoração dos conterrâneos. Na campanha eleitoral de 1950, ao atuar como um guerreiro sagrado capaz de conduzir seu povo à terra prometida, Palmério elegeu-se deputado federal e consagrou-se como um mito político. Mapear, articular, formular e sistematizar: o Encontro Nacional dos Estudantes de Comunicação na virada do século

A Executiva Nacional dos Estudantes de Comunicação (Enecos) é uma organização que atua na articulação de centros e diretórios acadêmicos dos cursos de Comunicação do Brasil. A partir da análise do contexto que condicionou as crises ideológicas das novas gerações de estudantes na virada do século, a pesquisa efetua um estudo de caso sobre as ideias políticas que circularam no Encontro Nacional dos Estudantes de Comunicação (Enecom) do ano 2000. Para isso, sob a perspectiva da micro-história, realizamos uma pesquisa bibliográfica e uma análise documental em um conjunto de fontes primárias e secundárias. Concluímos que o evento foi marcado mais por uma tentativa de organização de suas práticas e pela busca de uma nova identidade do que pela formulação de diretrizes objetivas no campo do ensino de Comunicação

Harry Potter, um herói liberal: ideologia e pedagogia política na ficção de J. K. Rowling

A série de livros de ficção infanto-juvenil do personagem Harry Potter, assim como as suas adaptações cinematográficas, alcançaram fama internacional. Ao tratar de temas contemporâneos através da fantasia, a sua narrativa abordou problemáticas análogas aos conflitos sociais do mundo real. Através de pesquisa bibliográfica de textos acadêmicos que investigam os aspectos políticos do universo de Harry Potter, a presente pesquisa realiza uma leitura sobre a representação das ideologias presentes na narrativa ficcional. Com isso, foi constatada a valorização de ideias liberais, apesar de algumas contradições no campo dos ideias de justiça e direitos humanos. A ausência de caráter revolucionário da mensagem nos livros reforça a manutenção de valores já estabelecidos na sociedade

Breve panorama da divulgação científica brasileira no YouTube e nos podcasts

Based on the analysis of the historical context of science in Brazil, this exploratory quali-quantitative research investigates the panorama of scientific dissemination initiatives on YouTube and podcasts. The methods employed were bibliographic research and document analysis, with data systematized in the Tableu Public software. It was found that the channels with the highest number of views and subscribers are dedicated to the scientific dissemination of general topics and of multidisciplinary interest. Institutional channels, in turn, are the ones that most publish videos. There was also a movement to professionalize podcasts, as most have a website, description and are anchored in a distribution platform. While on YouTube the majority of promoters are men from the Southeast, podcasts have more diversity.A partir del análisis del contexto histórico de la ciencia en Brasil, esta investigación exploratoria cuali-cuantitativa indaga en el panorama de las iniciativas de divulgación científica en YouTube y podcasts. Los métodos empleados fueron la investigación bibliográfica y el análisis de documentos, con datos sistematizados en el software Tableu Public. Se encontró que los canales con mayor número de visualizaciones y suscriptores se dedican a la divulgación científica de temas generales y de interés multidisciplinario. Los canales institucionales, a su vez, son los que más publican videos. También hubo un movimiento para profesionalizar los podcasts, ya que la mayoría tienen sitio web, descripción y están anclados en una plataforma de distribución. The Cave of Spectacles: the atualization of the platonic myth in the film "The Truman Show"

O filme "O show de Truman: o show da vida" (1998) despertou uma série de debates sobre as relações entre ficção e realidade nas mí­dias. Desde o seu lançamento, a obra foi estudada por vários pesquisadores dos mais diversos campos; contudo, ainda oferece oportunidade para novas análises. Uma das perspectivas mais comuns nos estudos sobre o filme diz respeito às analogias encontradas entre a obra e o mito da Caverna de Platão. Considerando que o cinema de Hollywood emprega mitologias de forma deliberada nos roteiros, o objetivo deste trabalho é realizar uma revisão bibliográfica para compreender o estado da arte das pesquisas que analisaram as semelhanças e contradições entre as narrativas do mito platônico e do roteiro do filme. Ainda que o diretor afirme não ter se inspirado em Platão, observou-se um conjunto de elementos que, partindo do debate sobre vigilância na sociedade de consumo, indicam a influência do texto na obra cinematográfica

A Multi-label Classification System to Distinguish among Fake, Satirical, Objective and Legitimate News in Brazilian Portuguese

Currently, there has been a significant increase in the diffusion of fake news worldwide, especially the political class, where the possible misinformation that can be propagated, appearing at the elections debates around the world. However, news with a recreational purpose, such as satirical news, is often confused with objective fake news. In this work, we decided to address the differences between objectivity and legitimacy of news documents, where each article is treated as belonging to two conceptual classes: objective/satirical and legitimate/fake. Therefore, we propose a DSS (Decision Support System) based on a Text Mining (TM) pipeline with a set of novel textual features using multi-label methods for classifying news articles on these two domains. For this, a set of multi-label methods was evaluated with a combination of different base classifiers and then compared with a multi-class approach. Also, a set of real-life news data was collected from several Brazilian news portals for these experiments. Results obtained reported our DSS as adequate (0.80 f1-score) when addressing the scenario of misleading news, challenging the multi-label perspective, where the multi-class methods (0.01 f1-score) overcome by the proposed method. Moreover, it was analyzed how each stylometric features group used in the experiments influences the result aiming to discover if a particular group is more relevant than others. As a result, it was noted that the complexity group of features could be more relevant than others

LOCUS (LOng Covid-Understanding Symptoms, events and use of services in Portugal): A three-component study protocol

Study ProtocolApproximately 10% of patients experience symptoms of Post COVID-19 Condition (PCC) after a SARS-CoV-2 infection. Akin acute COVID-19, PCC may impact a multitude of organs and systems, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and neurological systems. The frequency and associated risk factors of PCC are still unclear among both community and hospital settings in individuals with a history of COVID-19. The LOCUS study was designed to clarify the PCC’s burden and associated risk factors. LOCUS is a multi-component study that encompasses three complementary building blocks. The “Cardiovascular and respiratory events following COVID-19” component is set to estimate the incidence of cardiovascular and respiratory events after COVID-19 in eight Portuguese hospitals via electronic health records consultation. The “Physical and mental symptoms following COVID-19” component aims to address the community prevalence of self-reported PCC symptoms through a questionnaire-based approach. Finally, the "Treating and living with Post COVID-19 Condition" component will employ semi-structured interviews and focus groups to characterise reported experiences of using or working in healthcare and community services for the treatment of PCC symptoms. This multi-component study represents an innovative approach to exploring the health consequences of PCC. This article looks into the voyage of the "royal escort", a reconnaissance expedition sent from Belém do Pará in 1749 to explore the fluvial communication between the state of Maranhão and Grão-Pará and the captaincy of Mato Grosso down the courses of the Rivers Madeira, Mamoré and Guaporé, and its impact on the cartographic representation of this region. The considerable differences between the map drawn by José Gonçalves da Fonseca and the map of the boundaries of Brazil prepared for the negotiations with the Spanish Crown astonished the Portuguese politicians in charge of the matter before they set out to demarcate the South American territories according to the Treaty of Madrid signed by Portugal and Spain in 1750

Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.
